Dining at The Magnolia Resort

Simple and sublime are overused in the English language. but these are words that describe food in Kefalonia. Take for instant the marvel of Robola grape variety. This grape variety has been choosen by the gods to survive and evolve over the centuries. This simple, but noble grape grows in soil that is gravely and almost unforgiving. It is from this austere beginning that this wine gets its spectacular taste profile.

It has hints of citrus in the nose, with a deep rich mineral finish. The wine is so unique that the Venetians released its value to the world that they were able to levy great export taxes on this treasure. This exceptional wine should be enjoyed with great company of course: but marries well with fish, white meats, and cheeses. Not to be outdone by white varieties, the island of Kefalonia gives the world an interesting full bodies sweet red wine called; Mavrodaphne. This fortified sweet dessert wine is worth a try. A fine example of viniculture is the metaxa winery which is located a few kilometres from Magnola. Indigenous foods come with that very special Greek taste.
