Kefalonia

Kefalonia is an island that impresses with its unseen natural beauties, historic monuments and hospitality of residents. It is the biggest of Ionian Islands, with an extend of 730sq. km. It is right across the Patraic Gulf, south of Lefkada and north of Zakynthos. You can reach the island, either by boat or by plane.

Getting to Kefalonia

By boat
To reach Kefalonia from Athens, you can take a KTEL bus or your car in order to reach Patras within 2, 5 hours or Kyllini within 3, 5 hours. From there you will take a ferry in order to reach the island. There are daily itineraries, which are most frequent during the summer period. If you choose Patras, you will reach the port of Sami in 3, 5 hours, while from Kyllini you will reach the port of Poros in 1,5 hour. There are also ferry schedules from Astakos of Etoloakarnania, that reach the island in 2, 5 hours.
During the summer months, there are frequent ferry itineraries to Printezi of Italy and less frequent ones to Venice, Ancona and Bari.

By air
Kefalonia is connected to Athens through frequent flights, especially during summer period. The flight lasts 45 minutes. The airport of Kefalonia is 9 km away from Argostoli. You can reach it by bus or taxi. During high season, there are also flights from / to other big cities of Greece, as and charter flights from abroad.

Get around on Kefalonia
By bus
In Argostoli, you will find the central bus station of Kefalonia. From there you can get all the information needed about your tours around the island. The bus services cover most areas of the island in very reasonable prices. There are 4 itineraries in daily bases from Argostoli to Sami and 2 other itineraries to Fiskardo.

By taxi
You can get a taxi easily at the central taxi station in Valianou Square. Alternatively, you will find a taxi at numerous streets, mostly at the central ones. You can also arrange a taxi to pick you up / drop you off at specific times and places in reasonable prices. Most taxi drivers are extremely helpful and polite.

By car
The ideal way to explore Kefalonia is by car. It is the best way to visit places of interest and beaches that bus itineraries do not reach. Kefalonia is the biggest Ionian island and a car is the best vehicle to get around it. You can bring your own or rent a car. But always remember to drive safely.
